Will gravel siphoning lower my high nitrate level
Nitrate level of about 80ppm and cant lower it with weekly water changes of
35% (72 gallon tank w/ sump protein skimmer set up, canister filter with
carbon and anti-phosphate media.)
hmmm.. i'm guessing you don't have any plants let alone algae.
yeah if you gravel ''vacuum'' (is that what you mean) and replace the
water, your nitrate levels will gradually go down.
oh and there is a product at pet stores called easy balance w/ nitraban.
this stuff works wonders
The act of changing the water is what will lower nitrate
levels. Siphoning stuff out of the gravel will remove waste before it has
a chance to break down into nitrate, helping to keep the level low.
Gravel siphoning is very important as the feces and food pieces
get embedded in the gravel.
